The North Midlands Motor Neuron Disease Care and Research Network offers multi-disciplinary care and support to people living with MND and their carers.

We provide care for >130 ALS patients, with > 50 new patients a year. We have multidisciplinary team including neurology consultants, respiratory consultants, palliative care consultants, NIV and MND Nurse specialists and deliver clinics at two hospital sites, Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford. We are also able to recruit from adjacent ALS centres including Derby, Shropshire and Birmingham.

We have been recruiting patients to ALS studies since 2018 including phase II trials – DAZALS (4 recruited) and HIMALAYA (5 recruited) and also Phase III trials – TUDCA (10 recruited), Lighthouse II (13 recruited), and MAGNET. Our core ALS research team are experienced in carrying out neurological and respiratory assessments and hold current certification in ALSFRS-R, SVC, Kings staging and ECAS. Our centre has dedicated research staff that support services such as pathology, pharmacy and imaging.
