Oxford MND centre

University of Oxford

United Kingdom - Oxford

Oxford is one of the largest UK tertiary referral centres for ALS and other motor neuron disorders. We provide multidisciplinary care alongside an integrated and broad portfolio of research and clinical trial engagement.

Based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in partnership with Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, the Oxford MND Centre provides a diagnostic service for more than 125 referrals annually and regular multidisciplinary care for more than 250 people living with ALS. The MND Association Care Centre was established in Oxford in 2001 and is run by two consultant neurologists: Professor Dr Martin Turner and Associate Professor Dr Alexander Thompson. The clinic’s multidisciplinary team coordinator is Nurse Consultant Rachael Marsden, with more than 20 years of experience in ALS patient care. She is supported by MND Specialist Nurse Jess Newman, Occupational Therapist Phillippa Sharpe, Psychologist Rachel Woolrich and Administrator Hayley Pill. We have participated in multiple international multi-centre clinical trials with a research group spanning basic science, biochemical and neuroimaging biomarker development and epidemiology. Oxford has a strong track record in high-impact publications and commitment to training and education.
