Sheffield MND Care and Research Centre

University of Sheffield

United Kingdom - Sheffield

The Sheffield MND Care and Research Centre provides diagnosis and multi-disciplinary care to patients and carers living with MND and related disorders from a large geographical area of northern England.

The Sheffield MND Care Centre receives over 1,200 patient visits each year, including approximately 120 new patient referrals. We offer multi-disciplinary care and support to patients and carers living with MND from across the South Yorkshire region and the whole of the UK.

Sheffield is a major site for clinical research, including genetic therapies and studies to improve symptom management and quality of life for people living with MND. Full details about the studies that are currently open to recruitment are on the UK MND Clinical Studies Group website: https://www.mndcsg.org.uk/healthcare-research/locations

As part of the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), we are positioned to take preclinical laboratory findings and translational interventions forward into clinical evaluation for patient benefit. SITraN has over 220 researchers working on disease biology, genetic subclassification and drug discovery. SITraN was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2019 for research that has improved patient outcomes for people living with some of the most devastating neurodegenerative diseases.
